LUDHIANA: Jatin Malhotra, an amateur photographer from Rishi Nagar, who has displayed his pictures in a photography exhibition at Rishi Nagar, feels it is imperative to capture moments for posterity. The need to do so fuelled his love for photography four years ago. Since then, he has been capturing the pristine beauty of Punjab. The show in Atmosphere Gallery, Izhaar, is his first attempt to go public with his pictures.
Cameras weren't always that fashionable and affordable said the 29-year-old. "I remember photographing every little action in my phone in my early days. The passion started quite early but my journey was restricted to the camera in my phone. A few years later, my friends urged me to buy a camera. My real journey started from there", he said. The avid photographer manages to pursue his passion alongside his profession as district manager of the 108 ambulance service.
Most of his work revolves around nature and there is some impressive work on the Golden Temple in Amritsar. But Jatin agrees that his work is not about unraveling sights but recreating a vision, which has been clouded over.
"I do not visit places for such session. It is spontaneous," he said.
Jatin explains the approach with the example of a picture of the Durga Mata Mandir. "I was coming from Jagraon Bridge and this scene intrigued me. I wouldn't say I am the first to capture the temple at dusk, but certainly my angle and the set-up were different. I wanted to capture it in this feel", he said.
Jatin also loves to give captions to his pictures. Some of his work includes the picture of a peacock flying in PAU, Neelon Bridge and flowing water at dusk. The exhibition was sponsored by an NGO, Aadaar.
